Cala del Penyal is a small, undeveloped cove situated beneath the north face of the Peñón de Ifach.
This is not a conventional sandy beach. Its shoreline consists of a rocky platform, and the cove measures approximately 100 metres long but only five metres wide. It appeals principally to visitors looking for a quieter, natural setting for swimming, snorkelling, sport diving or fishing.
The cove is also identified by Calpe’s official tourism information as a naturist beach, so visitors should be aware that naturism may be practised here.

Cala del Penyal feels considerably more natural and undeveloped than Calpe’s main resort beaches.
There is no fine sand, promenade or row of beachfront restaurants. Instead, visitors reach a narrow rocky shoreline below the imposing Peñón de Ifach. Its more secluded character may appeal to confident swimmers and people who prefer quiet coves, but it is not designed for a traditional family beach day.
The surrounding rock provides a dramatic coastal setting, although there may be little comfortable space for lying down or spreading out beach equipment.
The official access is via a small path on the north face of the Peñón de Ifach.
The path and rocky shoreline may be uneven, so visitors should wear supportive shoes rather than flip-flops. The cove is not suitable for wheelchairs, pushchairs or people who find uneven paths difficult.
There is no road access directly onto the cove. Drivers will need to park in an appropriate space elsewhere and complete the final approach on foot.
Calpe tourism describes the water at Cala del Penyal as generally calm and clear. Nevertheless, this is a natural, unsupervised bathing location and conditions can change.
The rocky seabed may provide interesting snorkelling, but swimmers should take care when entering and leaving the water. Water shoes can provide better grip and protection from sharp or uneven rocks.
Visitors should not enter the sea during rough conditions or if they are uncertain about the route back onto the rocks.
The official description identifies Cala del Penyal as suitable for sport diving and fishing. Its rocky setting and clear water help explain its popularity for these activities.
Anyone diving should use appropriate equipment, follow local regulations and avoid diving alone. Fishing must also comply with current licensing, environmental and protected-area rules.
Calpe’s official tourism website classifies Cala del Penyal as a naturist beach. Naturism is therefore possible, although not compulsory.
Visitors should respect other beach users and avoid taking photographs that include people without their permission.
The official information identifies the cove as suitable for anchoring. Boat users must follow current maritime rules and use authorised mooring arrangements where provided.
Anchoring should never damage seagrass or other protected marine habitats. Local restrictions and sea conditions should be checked before approaching the cove by boat.
