Historic Centre - Old Town of Denia
The Historic Centre of Denia offers beautiful architecture from the 16th to 19th century - explore streets with white façades, arched doorways, gothic windows and ironworks, all finished with the areas´ characteristic “tosca” sandstone.
Discover the best of the Old Town of Denia with a walk through the narrow streets, visiting the many historic sights, followed by a climb up to Denia castle and the Archaelogical Museum.
1) Start your walking tour in the main shopping street of Dénia - Calle Marqués de Campo, a beautiful tree-lined street that offers shops, bars & restaurants. From here you can explore many historic buildings in the surrounding streets.
2) A couple of streets away in Carrer Magalanes you will discover The Municipal Market with its wonderful selection of food stalls.
3) From here, you can walk to the Plaza de la Consitution where you will find the Iglesia de Nuestra Señora de la Asunción - the main Church in Denia.
This is also the location of Ajuntament de Denia - the grand town hall building.
4) Travel from Plaza de la Constitution along Carrer del Cavallers to the Museo Etnológico, a museum where you can learn about the history and traditional culture of Denia over the years.
The museum is located in a 19th century house, and covers the history during this period, when Denia experienced major growth due to the local raisin trade.
The museum is open from Tuesday to Saturday from 10.30-13:00 plus from 16:00-19:00, and on Sundays from 10:30-13:00. Entrance to the museium is free.
5) The most famous sight in Denia is the Castillo de Denia. Located on on a small hill in the centre of Denia, access is via Calle San Francisco (next to the Town Hall).
The castle was built in Muslim style, and offers more than two thousand years of history. On the side of the hill, remains from the Roman period can also be found.
Enjoy wonderful views of the city and along the coastline.
Tourists & visitors pay 3 euros to access the Castle.

6) Discover the Museo de Arqueología which is located inside the upper part of the castle. Entrance is included in the ticket for the castle.
7) The tour of this historic city ends with a visit to another beautiful church "Iglesia de San Antonio" which can be found in the "Plaza del Convento, with its many bars & restaurants, the perfect place to eat, drink, relax & watch the world go by.
